As they announced on E3 2018, Bethesda is working on its first RPG set in space. Starfield is the first new franchise in twenty-five years from the acclaimed developers of The Elder Scrolls.
Little is known about how they plan to implement their distinctive open-world structure into a sci-fi universe. But the idea of a traditional single-player RPG set in space is exciting. This Official Teaser released on the day of the announcement will do nothing to clarify all this, but please feel free to watch it here:
Starfield Release Date
Bethesda has been working on Starfield for over a decade! During an interview with NoClip, Todd Howard, executive producer at Bethesda, pointed out that developing a project of Starfield’s magnitude takes years before the studio is comfortable even acknowledging it in public. He also said:
“Starfield is the biggest most epic science fiction thing you could possibly imagine”

Two years have passed since the announcement of Starfield at E3 2018, but we still have no news of an official release date. However, Bethesda has confirmed that Starfield is the next AAA game they will release. The team is currently hard at work on its production, although Bethesda’s time and resources are also going into the development of The Elder Scrolls VI. Learn more about the release date of The Elder Scrolls VI here.
Matt Firor, game director at Zenimax, described Starfield as a next-gen game. Meaning that it won’t release until the next generation of consoles comes along. Fortunately, we won’t have to wait much longer for that. The new PS5 is confirmed to launch before Christmas 2020 and the Xbox Series X is also due by the end of 2020.
We expect that the first Starfield gameplay trailers will debut at E3 2020, and that we might get an official release date then. In the meantime, we predict that Starfield’s release date will be sometime in early 2021.
